- Environment: a large grouping of devices that share common
attributes; equivalent to UN/SPSC's segment.
Example: electrical/electronic devices, mechanical components.
- Domain: a class of products within an environment that share
more unique attributes; Introit's definition for electrical/electronic
components include all electrical/electronic components devices found on
a printed circuit board.
Example: IC's, passives, discretes, opto devices, virtual components,
connectors, batteries, RF/microwave, transformers, wire/cable, fasteners,
clock sources, and electromechanical devices; all of these domains would
fall under the electrical/electronic device environment.
- Branch node: a subclass of components found within a domain;
equivalent to UN/SPSC's class; multiple levels of branches can exist
before reaching the leaf node terminus when drilling down through a
taxonomy.
Example: Electrical/Electronic components (environment):ICs
(domain): memory (branch node)
- Leaf node: the last node (drill down terminus) found when
drilling down into a taxonomy; searches for component families use
parametric searches for finer component information access after a leaf
node has been found; equivalent to UN/SPSC's commodity.
Example: Electrical/Electronic components (environment):ICs
(domain): memory (branch node):DRAM (leaf node)
